Southeast Idaho is nestled on the southern edge of the Snake River plain and the western edge of the Rocky Mountain system. Pocatello is the urban center and home to Portneuf Medical Center and Idaho State University . The 9,200 square miles of terrain includes semi-arid desert, irrigated farmland, a large reservoir, mountain ranges and valleys with elevations from 4,000 to 9,300 feet. The area is larger than the combined states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
